A falling film chiller is a type of chiller that uses a falling film evaporator. Its advantages are mainly reflected in heat exchange efficiency, refrigerant consumption, and operational stability, as follows:


Efficient heat exchange:

The evaporator of the falling film chiller adopts a falling film design, where the refrigerant forms a uniform liquid film on the inner surface of the evaporator tube and exchanges heat with the refrigerant outside the tube. This method increases the contact area between the refrigerant and the heat transfer tube, and has a thin liquid film thickness and low thermal resistance, making heat transfer more efficient and effectively improving refrigeration efficiency while reducing energy consumption. Compared with traditional full liquid evaporators, its heat transfer coefficient can be increased by about 20% -50%.


Save refrigerant:

The refrigerant charge in the falling film evaporator is low, generally only 30% -50% of that in the full liquid evaporator. This not only reduces the procurement cost of refrigerants, but also minimizes the potential impact of refrigerant leaks on the environment, while also meeting environmental requirements, especially for the use of refrigerants that are expensive or have a certain impact on the environment.


Good operational stability:

The structure of the falling film evaporator makes the flow state of the refrigerant in the tube relatively stable and less prone to liquid hammer and other phenomena, thereby ensuring the stable operation of the compressor and extending the service life of the equipment. Due to the low refrigerant charge, the pressure change of the refrigerant in the system is relatively small, which also improves the operational stability and safety of the system.


Adapt to low load operation:

During partial load operation, the falling film chiller can still maintain high efficiency. This is because the liquid film distribution characteristics of the falling film evaporator enable it to maintain good heat transfer performance even at low loads, without experiencing a significant decrease in heat transfer performance due to load reduction like some traditional evaporators. Therefore, the falling film chiller can better adapt to different cooling demand changes and has significant energy-saving advantages during low load operation.


Compact structural design:

The structure of the falling film evaporator is relatively simple, with a small volume, which can make the overall structure of the chiller more compact and occupy less space. This is very advantageous for installation sites with limited space, as it can save installation space and reduce installation costs. Meanwhile, the compact structure also facilitates the transportation, installation, and debugging of the equipment.


Lower maintenance costs:

Due to the high operational stability of the falling film chiller, the probability of failure is relatively low, and the refrigerant charge is small. During maintenance and repair, the operation is relatively simple, and the required maintenance time and cost are also low. When inspecting and replacing evaporator components, due to its relatively simple structure, there is no need to handle a large amount of refrigerant, which can reduce maintenance workload and costs.
